Fruit Order Delivery on Tuesday, December 12th

The Indian River Grove fruit orders will arrive on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 and can be picked up in the cafeteria when the school day ends at 3:18PM.  Your student can pick up the order if it isn’t convenient for you to come at that time.

We will need a few people to help unload the fruit when the delivery truck arrives on Tuesday.  If you are able to help or if you have any questions about your order, please contact Jackie Nelson and Amy Zinchuk at fundraising@chargerbands.com.

Trip Winner: Chicago/Blue Man Group, March 15-16, 2018

We are excited to let you know that we have a trip planned to Chicago for March 15th and 16th. The students chose Chicago over St. Louis in rehearsals 2nd and 3rd hour. The Marching Chargers will perform at the Field Museum, which houses the most complete T-Rex fossil in the world. The highlight of the trip will be seeing a show by The Blue Man Group Thursday night

The price will be approximately $300. The price will be less if we fill two buses. Maximum number of students will be capped at 106. Many of you will already be fully paid for this trip since it is so much less than the Disney trip. A payment schedule will come out next week for students that will join us who were not planning on going to Disney. We are hoping to see every student go on this trip if they can. Our goal is to give the students life-long memories with all of their friends in band.

Band Trip Update

We are closing in on trip options. We are working towards a trip that will cost less than $400 in hopes of having more students participate in the trip. Based on the survey, we are looking at Mall of America, Chicago, St. Louis, and Nashville.  Based on the school calendar, the dates will have to remain in March over one or two nights during the week of March 15th. 

We are trying to create a complete trip experience with a band performance without a travel agent. We expect to have a trip or a choice of trips to propose to you next week.

Refunds for the Disney trip will be available through January 10th, so you and your family will not feel rushed once we send out trip details. To request a refund, please contact Chris Hannauer at studentaccounts@chargerbands.com.

Holiday Jazz Performance at Marketplace Mall, Monday, 12/4

On Monday, 12/4, we will load two buses to take jazz students to Marketplace Mall after school. Jefferson Middle School will join us for this performance in the Food Court. Performances will begin at 5:00 with the Jazz Combo followed by Jefferson and both of Centennial's jazz bands. Students should wear nice school clothes.

5:00  Centennial Jazz Combo
5:15  Jefferson Middle School Jazz
5:40  Centennial Jazz Band
6:10  Centennial Jazz Ensemble

6:30  Load buses and return equipment to the band room.

We will perform at the Mall again on February 15th.

2018 Disney Trip Change

Based on the survey results, families would like to keep a smaller trip this year. Mr. Allen will contact alternate sites to offer choices and dates by the end of this November. Some of the ideas that received the most favorable responses were Nashville, Memphis, and King’s Island in Cincinnati. The goal will be to have trip that will cost significantly less per student. Money raised for Disney will go towards the new trip. The length of the new trip will likely be one night and two days with a performance. We will learn more as we gather information about the various options. We expect the number of students to increase based on the decrease in cost of this new trip.


If families would like a refund, they will need to request it by December 1, 2017. Please contact Regina Ray or Chris Hannauer for a refund if you choose this option. Mrs. Ray’s email is coordinator@chargerbands.com. Mr. Hannauer’s email is studentaccounts@chargerbands.com.


The dates of the trip may or may not correspond to the Disney dates. For example, if we find that a trip to King’s Island in Cincinnati will be best, those dates would have to be in late April because the park doesn’t open until mid-April.

Butter Braids Fundraiser Extended to October 20th

Help Needed for Saturday’s Competition at Memorial Stadium

The final competition of the season will be held on Saturday, 10/21 at Memorial Stadium.  

We will need help with uniforms, equipment, and filling the coolers.  Chaperones will be needed for the bus ride and competition.  We are also looking for someone with a large SUV or truck with a high towing capacity (comparable to a Ford F-250) to tow the 2nd trailer.  


Since the Band and Color Guard will be gone for most of the day and evening, we are requesting healthy snack donations.  Fresh fruit, individually packaged granola barspretzels, or crackers are preferred.  Please confirm that none of the snacks contain nuts or peanut oil, even in trace amounts, due to a severe allergy.

Next Disney Band Trip Payment is Due on 10/17

This is a friendly reminder that the next Disney band trip payment is due on October 17th.  Thank you to everyone who has already sent in their payments. If you have not sent your payment, please mail it to Centennial Charger Band Boosters, P.O. Box 6093, Champaign, IL  61826-6093, as soon as possible.

ILMEA Honor Band/Jazz Auditions - Monday, 10/9

ILMEA auditions will be held on Monday, 10/9. Please ask your student if he or she is planning to audition. Students who are participating in the audition will travel to Bloomington and should plan on being at Centennial at 6:45AM.  The audition fee is $10. Details will be given to interested students.  


The Jazz festival will be held on November 4th and the Band, Orchestra, and Choir festival will be held on November 18th. If a student is selected to perform at either festival, the school will pay the associated fees for those events If the student is subsequently selected for All-State in January 2018, the school will pay that fee as well. Please contact Mr. Allen or Mr. Schulze if you have any questions.
